The National Union of Ghana students (NUGs) Upper West yesterday inaugurated and inducted its new elected executives in the University for Development Studies Wa. The event which took place at the UDS Spanish Lab brought together great minds and leaders both in the cooperate world and politics.
The chairman of the event Apostle George Apasra, who is the Deputy Chairman of Upper West Regional Peace Council, speaking at the event admonished the new executives to work their heart out to ensure the betterment of the Upper West Regional NUGS bloc. He said, the new executives should see this as an opportunity to leave a positive image of the Upper West NUGs bloc and not a chance to squander funds.
He further continued that “as student executives, the welfare of students are very important and they should make it their core aim to unite and direct their efforts towards ensuring transparency and proper governance.”
Speaking also was Honorable Nuhu Portia formal Municipal Chief Executive whose main concern was about the tassel that exist between SRC and NUGs. He advice that the new executives should work together with SRC and to complement each other and should not see each other as opponent.
Again he encouraged them to be proactive and should not sit down for things to happen. They must move into actions and get things done.
“I am here also as a college to student to urge you on to fire from all cylinders so that at the end of the day, your administration, you should be able count one, two, three as your achievements such that, it is not only about labeling halls and minor things. You can work with the school administration so that together you can achieve greater things” he said.
The newly elected president Mr.Ebenezer Ayi, in his acceptance speech also stressed their willingness and readiness to carry this course with all due diligence, dignity and perseverance.
He said, they are highly honored to be the first executives of the Upper West NUGs Bloc. And that they are ever ready to ensure the smooth running of the new Bloc.
I wish to say emphatically, we will welcome all ideas and support from students to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the new bloc.
“We shall also engage in a number of beneficial programs that will go a long way to benefit students. We shall create the Regional SRC Secretariat, entrepreneurship training, IT training and others” he said.
He again appeal for support to as to help the bloc have optional office and other administration tools to ensure smooth operation,. Furthermore, he appealed to the government to create internship of opportunity for student and to also ensure the quick release of the students loans.
The Director at Regional Coordinating Council Mr. Abubakar Musah speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister, also encouraged the executives to take this role seriously and work hard to make a difference.
Speaking he said “as student leaders, they must work within the confinement of the constitution and to work towards building healthier relation with the school administration, institutions and oraganistion of learning within and outside Ghana for mutual benefits”
He said they must be creative in handling new problems as they occur and he also invited the students body to give the new executive their full support.
